LANDFIRE provides national geospatial data of surface and canopy fuels for use in fire behavior modeling systems. Local calibration workshops provide the opportunity for fire and fuels staff to critique and “fine-tune” the LANDFIRE data for use at a more local scale based on their collective experience and knowledge of the area and to update the data to account for recent disturbances. FMI organized and lead a local fuel model calibration workshop at the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest in December of 2009.
