Project Name:Burn Probability Mapping for Region 1
Abstract: US Forest Service, Region One, is developing a restoration and protection strategy to cover the whole region. Risk of fire burning resources of concern is a critical input to determining where treatments may be necessary for protection purposes. This will further be coupled with ecological objectives to best determine type and placement of treatments to achieve ecological restoration as well as protection of highly valued resources, including private property. A burn probability map will be developed for the Nez Perce/Clearwater prototype area using new modelling in development by Mark Finney. The prototype includes wilderness with many fires and a populated area to the west and east of the wilderness boundary and a site that has a history of fuels treatments
